- Each student must go to the Centre de Ressources Linguistique (CRL in the Bibliothèque des Cerclades) at least ONCE during the semester. You will use one of the self-study software available, for example BBC English Zone, Tell Me More, TOEFL Mastery or Giving Presentations in Scientific English. You may reserve a spot at http://www.u-cergy.fr/article8505.html (link to online reservation) or call Mme Bourin 01 34 25 72 77. Remind the student monitor that you need an “attestation” of presence, so that this will count for your grade (0.5 points).

- Participation means actively engaging in activities, proposing answers, asking questions, preparing homework, and generally doing more than only what is required of you. (0.5 pts)

REQUIRED MATERIAL for the class:

- Find the links to the required homework listening recordings on the class blog.

Or provide the instructor with a blank CD (NOT a DVD) or a USB Flash Drive (clef USB) with your name on it to record the documents for the following week (this service only available in the first 3 weeks of class). Many of the reports are in .wav (audio) format in order to be able to play them on a computer, but in a CD/DVD player as well.

Podcasts & recommended listening:

Randalls ESL Cyberlab: http://www.esl-lab.com (2 examples given, but listen to many others)

- Is Dad Home? http://www.esl-lab.com/meet/meetrd1.htm

- Telephone recording http://www.esl-lab.com/record/recrd1.htm

ESLpod: http://www.eslpod.com

One of the more mature - if you can say that anything is mature at this point - podcasts dedicated to ESL learning. The podcasts include advanced vocabulary and subjects which will prove especially useful for English for Academic Purposes classes. Pronunciation is very slow and clear, but somewhat unnatural.

English Teacher John: http://www.englishteacherjohn.com/

John focuses on understandable English speaking in an extremely clear voice (some might find the perfect pronunciation unnatural) provides useful English lesson - ideal for intermediate level learners.

'Splendid Speaking' is a podcast from Flo-Joe which supports advanced learners of English who want to develop their top-level speaking skills and communication strategies. http://www.splendid-speaking.com/
